As an artist, I believe in the role of a researcher and a meditator in the creative process. Historical painting, in particular, demands a deep commitment to research. In this genre, artists depict events from the past, relying on historical facts documented by archaeologists, historians, and researchers.

Just as we gain insights into our history through cultural heritage paintings, sculptures, and artworks, I envision my paintings serving as valuable research tools for those living a century from now. To me, an artist acts as a conductor of time, bridging the past and the future. That's why I'm dedicated to meticulous study and fact-based representation in my work.

Capture of Emperor Yingzong

On September 1, 1449, Esen Taish, the son of Togoon Khan of Oirad, launched a campaign that resulted in the expulsion of the Altan Urag, descendants of Chingis Khan, and fierce battles in the southern regions. His forces successfully captured Tumu's fortress near the Great Wall, leading to the capture of the 22-year-old Ming Emperor Yingzun. The Mongolian side attempted to secure the emperor's release through a substantial ransom, but this proposal was rejected by his younger brother, who had already ascended to the throne. Surprisingly, the Mongols released Emperor Yingzun without any payment after he had spent four years herding sheep.

This historic battle is counted among the ten largest battles ever recorded in world history and is known as the "Battle of Tumu." Esen Taish personally visited the battlefield to confirm the identity of the Chinese Emperor. The captured generals and exhausted soldiers are vividly depicted beneath the blood-red sky of a post-battle sunset.

This painting was commissioned by the Ministry of Culture of Mongolia for the establishment of the Chinggis Khan Museum.
